Tone generation from light sensor and pitches.h

The full name of this light sensor is Ambient Light Sensor. This light sensor seems as the Ping Sensor. But, this sensor is using the light to be the only condition and detect the light to measure the distance of the object. If the object distance is changed, the data of the sensor will be also changed. In this workshop, we use the speaker to be the obvious reaction of this light sensor. We found out that if the object is closed to the sensor, the sound of speaker will be lower and quieter.

The features of this light sensor:

Non-contact detection
Non-contact detection eliminates damage either to the target or sensor head, ensuring long service life and maintenance-free operation.

Detection of targets of virtually any material
Detection is based on the quantity of light received, or the change in the quantity of reflected light. This method allows detection of targets of such diverse materials as glass, metal, plastics, wood, and liquid.

Long-detecting distance
The diffuse-reflective photoelectric sensor has a detecting distance of up to 1 m 3.3', and the thrubeam has a detecting distance of up to 10 m 32.8'.

High response speed
The photoelectric sensor is capable of a response speed as high as 20 µs.

Color differentiation possible
The sensor has the ability to detect light from an object based on the reflectance and absorption of its color, thus permitting color detection and differentiation.

Highly accurate detection
A unique optical system and a precision electronic circuit allows highly accurate positioning and detection of minute objects.

Ping Sensor/ Tilt Sensor, LCD Screen

This Ping Sensor provides an easy method of distance measurement. In this lab workshop, we used speaker to be the output device to reflect the reaction of Ping Sensor.

The key features of this sensor are:
  • Provides precise, non-contact distance measurements within a 2 cm to 3 m range
  • Ultrasonic measurements work in any lighting condition, making this a good choice to supplement infrared object detectors
  • Simple pulse in/pulse out communication requires just one I/O pin
  • Burst indicator LED shows measurement in progress
  • 3-pin header makes it easy to connect to a development board, directly or with an extension cable, no soldering required

Also, we used LCD screen to be the output of this reaction of this Ping Sensor.

It is really fun that can use the distance of the object to have a connection with this sensor. I think this sensor can apply in daily life to improve our life. I think this sensor can use in some exhibition for the security to avoid or warn someone that do not try to step inside more in one specific area.

CMSIII Bed of Nails

Bed of Nails

We had spent two lessons to build up this device. The function of this device is to create the sounds through these 8 nails.

Materials list of "Bed of Nails"
  1. 1 wooden board
  2. 8 nails
  3. 4 10k Ohm resistors
  4. 1 18k Ohm resistor
  5. 1 1M Ohm resistor
  6. 1 battery clip
  7. 8 Wines
  8. 1 Audio Jack
  9. 1 0.22 uf capacitor
  10. 1 47 uf capacitor

Doing "Bed of Nails" is really fun. But, the process of making this device is quite complicated and difficult. It is because we need to connect each point clearly and to make sure that there is no any misunderstandings of looking at this electric circuit.
For the lecturers' mention, we can design two ways of this device. Option one is setting the nails on two sides only. Another option is setting the nails on all sides. I choose the two sides nails version of my design. I think it will be easily to create the sounds by our hands. The most difficult part during making this device is to confirm all the connection of the solder wire and the chip are separate clearly. If not, the circuit will be not succeed. Thus, using the solder is the most important and difficult part  of this device.

Finally, I succeeded to finish "Bed of Nails". I can use the sound mixer to test my device is success or not. These 8 nails had create different electric sounds through the sound mixer. It is really interesting to create my own electric song.

<~Here is the first LED light blackboard in CMSIII.

On last Thursday morning, I had my first lesson of CMS III. In that lesson, we need to build up the blackboard to glow the LED light up.

These are the main materials that we need to use on building this LED light blackboard:
  1. Blackboard
  2. 9V battery
  3. Power switch
  4. LED light
  5. 220 Ohm Resistor

In this workshop, it will provide three different resistance values of the resistor. Thus, we need to find out which resistor is suitable of this LED light blackboard. They are 220 Ohm 5% (Red Red Brown Golden), 470 Ohm 5% (Yellow Purple Brown Golden) and 1000kOhm 5% (Brown Black Green Golden). If the resistance values of the resistor is over than the LED light needs, the LED light will not be glowed. Finally, we find that 220 Ohm 5% resistor is suitable for the LED light. Therefore, it will be the best resistor to use in this circuit.

In Kenny tutors, we need to build up the similar circuit on the in the lab. However, because of the power cut of our lab, the circuit is incomplete. So, we will continue in next Kenny's tutor lesson. :(
